Impresario Kevin Finney here.
What winter doldrums? Things are heating up for Drunken Owl. Shoulder surgery knocked me out of participating in the last show, but we never skipped a beat as Peter Murray stepped up as Guest Impresario for February’s Love Stinks show, and a good time was had by all. Peter chose the plays, cast the roles and directed rehearsals and absolutely rocked as emcee. Thank you Peter!
While recuperating post-op, I’ve set up the next three months, and I’m excited to share the news.

Our next show is Sunday, March 17, St. Paddy’s Day. While we’ll feature a couple of Irish-tinged tunes and a greenish play, our theme is “March Madness – Heavy on the Madness.” Our cast of Jane Martin Lynch, Lori Bellamy, Terry Boyd and Chris McCullough will read plays by Suzi Bailie, Elena Naskova, Thomas Pierce and John C. Davenport. Lori Bellamy and Mike Hickey will read their poetry and the Bard Owls will play a few tunes.

For the April 21 show, we’re veering away from “Death and Taxes” toward “Aging versus Renewal – I’m Not Dead Yet.” Brynne Garman, Christina Williams, H.K. Goldstein and Adrian Cerrato will read plays by Elena Naskova, Babs Lindsay, Pamela Hobart Carter, Kathryn Keller and Robin Brooks. Celaine Charles, Kathryn Keller and MaryEllen Talley will read their poetry and the Bard Owls return with some music. Saloon owner Rache’ has requested that we change our start time to 5:00 pm to make staffing easier. We’ll begin an earlier start time in April or May; stay tuned.

Our next production lands on the fourth weekend of May, 5/24- 5/26, Memorial Day Weekend. The theme this time is essentially “Plays I’d Like to Produce,” but as they revealed themselves to me, a common thread emerged. “God, Zombies and Other Phantasms” will feature plays by Anna Tatleman, Kevin Harrang, Kate Danley and Andrew Meyers, performed by Monique Preston, Jane Martin Lynch, Jeremy Radick and Terry Boyd. We’ll have four performances from Friday 5/24 through Sunday 5/26.

I spent the last week attending the Theater Puget Sound United General Auditions. I saw hundreds of actors dare to offer their skills and plenty of talented artists who would make fine additions to our company; look for a few fresh faces as the year rolls along. I auditioned as well, and…

I landed a role! Playwright Babs Lindsay, whose work we have read and will read at DOT, will see her play “The Walkers” produced at Theatre 9/12, Charles Waxberg directing. I’ll play Boyd, a married father of two with some extreme personality traits. We’ll open Friday April 5, and run for four weekends. Details to follow.

The Bard Owls are spreading our wings to a gig outside of Drunken Owl: we’ll be the Featured Guest Performer at the Open Mic at Tim’s Tavern in White Center on Wednesday, March 13. Tim’s, located at 9655 16th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98106, is a great venue. Music starts at 7:00, we go on around 8:00 for thirty minutes. No cover charge – come on out and help us prove to the venue that we merit a gig on the main stage.
