For some, January represents the post-holiday blues. At Drunken Owl Theatre, January is a time for annual celebrations. My birthday is this month, and Drunken Owl was originally hatched on my birthday in 2018. We rose from the ashes of the pandemic in January 2022, landing at our current venue, the Jules Maes Saloon. (Are you getting all the avian references here? More on that later.) The Saloon just celebrated their 5th anniversary under the ownership of Rache’ Purcell.
We’re well into preparations for this month’s production of “Justice.”

The flat-painting party is later this week.

We’re collecting and organizing props.

We’re re-using a set piece from our “Festival of Jules Maes Plays” in 2023.

Rehearsals are going great.

All that’s missing is the audience. Tickets are available at the following links:

The best birthday present I can imagine is a spike in ticket sales.
Season tickets are still available: https://tickets.venuepilot.com/e/drunken-owl-theatre-2025-26-season-tickets-2026-12-31-jules-maes-seattle-53a243
Two years ago, we sold 10 season tickets, and last year we sold 16. We’re at 14 this year. Please help us reach our goal of 20 season ticket sales. For $100, you’ve a seat every month: we’ll present 3 productions and 8 readings. Save on those irritating fees while paving the way for another year of audacious art on stage!

Looking ahead to the new year, we’re thrilled to collaborate again with Union Arts for not one but two readings. Riffing on their production of “the aves,” by Jihae Park, we’ll present “park bench: a bird’s eye view.” The first reading is on our home court at the Saloon on Sunday April 19 at 4:00 pm. The following Saturday April 25, we’ll take our show across town to Union Arts’ Bullitt Cabaret and stage a second and separate reading between their matinee and evening performances, around 3:30 pm. Playwrights Amontaine Aurora, M. Yichao, Carolynne Wilcox and Kirsten McCory are each working on two short plays. Each show will feature the same actors, poets and musicians, but the material will be different. This is HUGE for Drunken Owl Theatre. Please stay tuned!
