I love my country…

…I just think we need to see other people. That’s the bumper sticker I saw back when the US was preparing to invade Iraq, and it serves as the theme for this month’s show. We’ll read plays by Thomas Pierce, Suzi Bailie, Leonie Mikele, Margaret O’Donnell and Barbara Lindsay. L. Scot Bastian, Leonie Mikele and Kaitlyn DeMeyere will read their poetry, and the Bard Owls will provide a few protest songs from the Grateful Dead, Jim Croce, Black Sabbath and others.

Come beat the heat in the air conditioning at Jules Maes Saloon on Sunday, 7/21 at 5:00 pm. Doors open at 4:30.

Money Talk

Last year, we increased the stipend each participant receives for a show or production. As we’ve grown and raised our production values, our costs have risen. Beautiful weather and Father’s Day conspired to decrease our audience in June, and for the first time in a while, our gate receipts didn’t cover the costs of a reading. We’re hoping to bounce back with greater attendance on July 21. If you’re coming, grab a friend and bring them along. We’re working on a new fund-raising idea, but ticket sales remains our best option right now. As explained further below, we’re raising prices for our next production.

Next show, next production

On August 18, we’ll read a few plays and poems along the theme of “Sunshine Daydream.” We’re still looking for material, so if you have a play to submit, please send it to Kevin at ksfinns@comcast.net. The Brews Brothers will return as musical guests.

Our next production, “Tales of Georgetown” will run Friday, September 27 through Sunday, September 29 with four performances. We asked for plays about Georgetown history, and playwrights Anna Tatelman, Thomas Pierce, Elena Naskova, Pamela Hobart Carter and Mike Hickey provided some great pieces. We’ll wander through cemeteries, and ponder the issues surrounding the naming of Georgetown and its annexation to Seattle.

Ticket sales for recent productions (Phantasms, Marine Mammals) also didn’t cover our costs, so beginning with our September production, ticket prices will increase by $5, to $15 in advance and $20 day of show. A link to buy tickets will be posted in the usual spot on the Home page of this site.
